HISTORIC SEGOVIAN VINEYARD

OSSIAN 2024

Ossian 2024 brings together the expressions of a mosaic of distinctive vineyard plots on the Voltoya terraces. Century old vines that survived the spread of phylloxera thanks to the area’s sandy soils. Some of these vines are up to 200 years old and preserve exceptional genetic diversity, bearing witness to a winegrowing heritage that has all but disappeared. They carry the identity of Segovia’s Verdejo, passed down through generations. This vintage captures the elegance, complexity, and freshness of that legacy, with remarkable finesse and a long, lingering finish. A wine that invites you to discover the nuances of its origins and the imprint of a landscape of sandy soils and pine forests that has safeguarded its ancient vines.

PRE-PHYLLOXERA VINES

PRE-PHYLLOXERA VINES

A vintage affected by two strong frosts

The 2023 vintage ended with a very rainy September, which set the tone for the rest of the autumn, with constant rain and mild temperatures. The winter was characterized by seasonal frosts and occasional snowfall. February was slightly warmer than usual, heralding an early spring that was halted in early March by several snowfalls. The first buds appeared in mid-April, but a severe frost on the 23rd and 24th affected them, resulting in reduced production. Flowering began in mid-June in a very uneven manner. The summer passed with hardly any rainfall and average temperatures; during August, temperatures rose slightly, reaching levels typical for the season. The harvest began on 10 September and continued until 9 October with hardly any interruptions and with the grapes in perfect health.

Small vineyards, vinified plot by plot

Ossian is a blend of individually vinified vineyard plots selected from the area surrounding the Voltoya terraces: Nieva, Nava de la Asunción, Moraleja de Coca, Santiuste de San Juan Bautista, Bernuy de Coca, Villagonzalo de Coca, Aldeanueva del Codonal, Aldehuela del Codonal, Codorniz, Melque de Cercos, and Ochando. Each plot is vinified separately to preserve its nuances and follow its development before blending. The grapes are harvested into small crates and gently pressed, then the juice is transferred to wooden vats and barrels ranging from 228 to 600 liters. Over the following weeks, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts reveals the purity and complexity of the variety. Ossian 2024 was blended and bottled in the summer of 2025 after approximately nine months of aging on its lees. Contains sulfites
